Established in 1889, the Elk Drug has always been a locally and family-owned business and remains to be a vital and important downtown Dayton establishment. Elk drug bills most third-party insurance companies and offers personal service for all of your pharmacy needs. In addition to shelves of medical supplies, you will find greeting cards, stationary, beauty supplies, gift wrap and so much more.
Dayton has a long history of confection and soda fountains and Elk Drug has helped keep this history alive since Mike Floyd purchased the business in 1950 and installed a soda fountain. The current fountain, manufactured in 1946, remains in Elk Drug and uses real ice cream and is known for their famous SHORTY made with real ice cream, marshmallow cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkles. In recent years, Elk Drug owners, Sean and Andi Thurston have increased the number of offerings available at the Soda Fountain.
