DunKirk Opens at The Liberty Theater

  • The Liberty Theater 344 East Main Street Dayton, WA, 99328 United States (map)

August 24, 2017

Hello Liberty Friends,

Director Christopher Nolan has built his career creating intellectually stimulating thrillers that provoke philosophical conversations around the themes of human morality, the construction of time, and the malleable natures of memory and identity. While his new film is both brilliant and suspenseful, Nolan suppresses the cerebral exploration, and instead pierces the viewer with the raw emotions of the young WWII soldiers desperately awaiting evacuation from the north or France in 1940 during what came to be known as the Miracle of Dunkirk.

Nolan's Dunkirk is a powerful and immersive cinematic experience, something that is all the more remarkable for its restraint in depicting explicit carnage. Of course, no director can do it alone; Tom HardyMark RylanceCillian Murphy, and Kenneth Branagh are just a few of the actors who help Nolan convey the broad range of raw human emotion when faced with the terror of war.
