Dayton on Tour event to highlight business and investment opportunities

The Dayton Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Columbia are partnering to host Dayton on Tour on Saturday, October 6, 2018.  This full day of events will highlight Main Street businesses, including businesses and buildings currently for sale.  Businesses currently for sale include an historic Victorian hotel, popular brew pub, successful restaurant, a bustling consignment shop, and more.  The tour of Main Street will run from 10 am to 5 pm.

Additionally, empty storefronts will be open for tours, with the hope that entrepreneurs will find homes for their next big business idea.  Local economic development advisors, small business experts, and funding resources will be on hand as well to assist with questions on starting a business in Columbia County.

While at first glance it may seem concerning that so many downtown buildings are for sale, Kathryn Witherington, Economic Development Coordinator for the Port, sees it differently.  “Our Main Street business owners love Dayton and are successful here, but are experiencing life changes – they want to retire, spend more time with family or expand to a larger location.  They are committed to keeping their doors open until they can find a good buyer who will fall in love with Dayton and their business. We hope this event will help them find that next great business owner.”

In addition to the Main Street Open House Tours, other activities happening during Dayton on Tour include a tour of historic homes through the Historic Train Depot, kids fall festival, art show and Oktoberfest beer garden in the evening.
